American Councils Moldova moderates a free online TESOL Electronic Village Online session

Starting January 13, 2014, American Councils Moldova offered a free online training session for teachers of English around the globe in collaboration with the Electronic Village Online (EVO) 2014, a project of TESOL's Computer-Assisted Language Learning Interest Section (CALL-IS). Starting with 2001, the EVO has been offering free, open professional development sessions and workshops to thousands of teachers internationally. For nearly 50 years, TESOL International Association has been bringing together educators, researchers, administrators, and students to advance the profession of teaching English to speakers of other languages. With more than 12,000 members representing 156 countries, and more than 100 worldwide affiliates, TESOL offers everyone involved in English language teaching and learning an opportunity to be part of a dynamic community, where professionals like you connect with and inspire each other to achieve the highest standards of excellence.
This year, after going through a six week training for moderators, a group of 4 Moldovan teachers working for American Councils Moldova, namely Olga Morozan, Marina Chirnitcaia, Anna Lisnic and Daniela Munca-Aftenev moderated a free online five-week session on integrating civic engagement component in the English as a foreign language curricula, based on the experience of American Councils Moldova community development youth projects entitled "Online tools for EFL-ESL civic engagement Youth Projects". The project initiated by the Moldova team is one of the 18 EVO sessions focusing on a variety of topics, including drama, mentoring, peace building, podcasting, mobile apps, vocabulary, multiliteracies, and many more. 64 international teachers from Morocco, Argentina, France, Bangladesh, Oman, Paraguay, Senegal, Egypt, Argentina, Russia, Germany, Taiwan, Ukraine, India, Pakistan, Brazil, Serbia and Malta joined the session and learned about American Councils Moldova best educational projects. The sessions were moderated online using Google+ communities (to post asynchronous weekly tasks and interact with other participants online), Google Hangout (for live session and video conferencing) and Wikispaces (for posting the course syllabus and participants profiles).
