January , 23 2013

The American Language Center, one of American Councils Moldova subdivisions, signed an official partnership with The Kishinev Jacobs Jewish Campus, the biggest Jewish Community and Ethnic Centers in Moldova, to collaborate on a special project entitled "Business Mom". One of our instructors, Cristina Cornovan, was in charge of designing a special curricula for the project, which benefitted annually over 150 unemployed vulnerable women raising their children without support and had been out of work for several years. The course included training and development of social adaptation skills to unemployed women which would take into account the labor market particularities in Moldova.

After two years of teaching an original, custom made Business Romanian course to Russian speaking unemployed women from Moldova, Mrs Cornovan succeeded in harvesting the results of her work: 375 women completed her courses and more than 60% of them found employment or started a business (data submitted by the National Employment Agency, one of the project partners). In addition to teaching academic skills, such as those related to themes as business correspondence, writing a convincing resume, human resources management, Mrs Cornovan had to touch upon the ability to take responsibility for yourself and your family in order to encourage project beneficiaries to take responsibility for their own career development.
In order to share from her experience with the "Business Mom" Project, Mrs Cornovan presented a special paper at the "Teaching Foreign Languages for Specific Purposes in the XXIst Century" International Conference organized by Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova in April 2012 and published an academic article in the conference publication (http://conferintaasem.wordpress.com/ ).
