We are pleased to announce the continuation of the FLEX program for secondary school students in the Republic of Moldova. FLEX, now in its 28th year, is a program of the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and is administered by American Councils with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova. The FLEX scholarship offers competitively selected students the opportunity to live with an American family and study in an American school for the 2021-2022 academic year. Both the competition and participation are free of charge.
Students in 9, 10, and 11 grade, who meet the following criteria, are eligible to participate in the competition this fall:
• have Moldovan citizenship;
• born between January 1, 2004, and July 15, 2006;
• study English in a secondary school;
• meet the requirements for receiving a U.S. visa;
• have not spent more than 3 months of the last five years in the U.S.
• Students with disabilities born between February 15, 2003, and July 15, 2006 (8, 9,10,11,12 grade) are also eligible to participate in the FLEX Program. We will make special arrangements to test students who have vision, hearing, or other impairments.
Due to safety concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic, testing for the 2021-22 program year will be conducted ONLINE, beginning in fall 2020. Applicants can participate in the recruitment process from any location that has Internet access, using either a mobile device or a computer. FLEX recruitment will still include three rigorous rounds of testing, even though participants will not take part in in-person testing.
The first round of testing is open to all applicants who meet the eligibility criteria above and will take place from September 1-October 15. It includes a preliminary online application and three essay questions which must be submitted within 10 days of starting the application. Eligible applicants can apply here: https://ais.americancouncils.org/flex.
After submitting the preliminary application, selected students will be invited to take part in Round 2, which consists of an online English test. The third and final round of testing will begin in November. Round 3 will include an interview, three more essay questions, a comprehensive English test, and the full application. Students who pass to this stage will be contacted by the American Councils office in their country with more details.
